COPYRIGHT 2008 DELAMERE VINEYARDS

Hand-harvested from our 28 year old estate, our philosophy is to produce wines that reflect our unique soil and location. Fermented and matured in Burgundian coopered french oak, resulting in an elegant creamy palate with fresh quince and white nectarine characters, a lemony acidity giving great length. This is a unique wine that matches well to a variety of dishes and will reward careful cellaring for up to 7 years.

The Delamere Chardonnay from 2009 shows the return of one of Pipers Brook's great unsung hero's. The Chardonnay used in this wine comes from Delamere's oldest vines. Carefully hand harvested in the cool of the morning the fruit is pressed directly into French (Burgundian) coopered oak and allowed to undergo natural fermentation. Partial malo-lactic fermentation and months of lees stirring were an integral part of crafting this wine. All aspects of the winemaking process have the aim of allowing our unique vineyard characteristics to shine through, while developing a complexity and texture that truly cool climate chardonnay fruit can carry so well. The result is a wonderful harmony between subtle spice and fresh quince and stonefruit flavours, and remarkable balance between the creamy texture and the long elegant crisp finish. Enjoy now with a seriously good seafood or poultry dishes. Will reward careful cellaring for up to 7 years.

VITICULTURE

Close-planted vines at 7500/ha on own roots, low trellis, unirrigated, cane pruned vertical shoot position. The chardonnay is Penfolds 58 and I10V1 clones. Cropping levels in 2009 of 4 tonnes per ha.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

The 2009 vintage saw a break from the trend of warm seasons over the previous four years. With cooler than average temperatures, the ripening was slow but steady. Crop levels were well below average and this, in combination with the cool season, has given the wines great depth of flavour. The 2009 season will be known for low volumes and high quality.
