Tasmania is the playground of the adventurous, showcasing the creative opportunities available to a new generation of vignerons. Drawing on over 10 years of cool climate winemaking experience Naissante provides us with the avenue to explore alternative sites, varieties and wine styles from across Tasmania. Naissante wines emphasize varietal character, elegant structure and natural balance by continuing the traditional winemaking methods synonymous with Delamere Vineyard.

VINTAGE CONDITIONS

The 2010 vintage was marked by a break in a 4-year drought period resulting in strong canopy growth. Thankfully, crop levels also represented a return for more reasonable levels after the very light 2009 vintage. Temperatures throughout the growing season average, with a hot spell in March, resulting in excellent depth of flavour, wonderful complexity and perfectly balanced acidity.

WINEMAKING

This wine is a blend of many small parcels of Tasmanian Pinot Noir from the Delamere Vineyard in Pipers River as well as small parcels from various locations around the state. It is a blend of experimental techniques both in the vineyard and the winery, with elements of cold soaking, whole bunch fermentation and barrel fermentation. All parcels were hand picked, pressed by basket press and matured in French oak.

TASTING NOTES

A complex aroma of ripe strawberries and cream, with intriguing dried herb and wood-spice notes. The palate shows delicate but intense strawberry fruits, supported by firm savoury tannins, with pert acidity balancing the fruit sweetness. A delicate expression of Pinot Noir fruit with wonderful intensity, complexity and length. A truly distinctive expression of Tasmanian Pinot Noir

FOOD

Quail, Chinese style duck, poach artichoke with hollandaise sauce
