2010 Late Disgorged BdB

2010 Late Disgorged Blanc De Blancs

Vintage Conditions

The 2010 vintage was marked by a break in a 4-year drought period resulting in strong canopy growth. Thankfully, crop levels also represented a return for more reasonable levels after the very light 2009 vintage. Temperatures throughout the growing season average, with a hot spell in March, resulting in excellent depth of flavour, wonderful complexity and perfectly balanced acidity.

Winemaking

The grapes for our Late Disgorged Blanc de Blanc were whole bunch pressed, wild fermented and followed by full malolactic fermentation and tiraging in October 2010. 10 years aging on lees and a lower dosage of 5 grams allows the voluptuous flavours of the fruit to shine through. All our sparkling wines are made in the traditional method with the Late Disgorged Blanc de Blancs seeing a minimum of 10 years ageing in total before we will release it.

Tasting Notes

Lemon blossom and ripe lemon curd encapsulate beautiful, sweet brioche on the nose.   Firm tannins, riding on the delicate mousse, show marzipan and Delamere’s classic oyster shell minerality.   The wine is evolved and expressive yet shows lovely youth after 10 years of lees development.    The higher dosage of 5g/l adds a refined richness that lingers long. Will develop beautifully under cork.

Food matches

The Late Disgorged can hold up to just about anything with its beautiful biscuity characteristics and structured acidity. But we suggest having this wine with some fresh oysters or perhaps even with some roast lamb at Christmas lunch.
