Vintage Conditions
The 2016 vintage was characterized by very dry conditions and generally warm temperatures. Budburst commenced early in 2016 with strong canopy growth evident by January. The resulting wines have ripe flavours, which developed at moderate potential alcohol. Natural acidity for this wines leans towards the softer end providing lovely texture, whilst retaining the elegance and finesse that defines Delamere.
Winemaking
The grapes for our Vintage Sparkling Rosé were whole bunch pressed, wild fermented followed by full malo, with tiraging in November 2016. Nine years aging on lees and a low dosage of less than 4 grams allows the voluptuous flavours of the fruit to shine through. Crafted using 100% Pinot Noir grapes and made in the traditional method, the Vintage Sparkling Rosé is a perfect expression of the balance between the primary fruit flavours as well as the autolysis characters achieved by extended time on lees.
Tasting Notes
This wine has an alluring, complex aroma of secondary Pinot Noir characters. Potpourri and baked shortbread features on the nose and palate. The savoury character of the wine is framed beautifully by firm phenolics, rich texture and a long seamless palate.
Food matches
Enjoy alongside pan-seared Tasmanian scallops, fresh kingfish sashimi, an assortment of charcuterie and green olives.
Cellaring
Excellent drinking now and will reward careful cellaring for up to five years.
97/100 - The Real Review - Stuart Knox
"Medium salmon-pink hue. Dried cherry, rose and sumac aromas. A full palate filled with dried red fruits, pot-pourri and then it morphs into sumac spice and charcuterie savouries. The ultra fine bead speaks of its maturity, but has ample life to carry it along while a fine mesh of acidity keeps everything flowing. Very long and lingering: it's in the final moments that deep savoury toastiness really shines through. As serious as any Australian sparkling wine I’ve come across, and a delight to behold."
