Vintage Conditions
The 2025 vintage unfolded in the recent rhythm of warmer years—generous in yield across the North, with fruit marked by intensity, ripeness, and firm, structural tannins.
In Pipers River, including Delamere, spring arrived lush and abundant, with rainfall and warmth well above the norm. Vines responded with vigour, but with growth came challenge—disease pressure ran high, and vigilance became our daily ritual. Time in the vineyard stretched long, each pass a quiet battle to stay ahead. Then, as January turned the page, the skies closed and the landscape dried. The warmth lingered, but the rain withdrew. Sparkling fruit came in through March, ripening in a steady, measured flow. But by mid-month, still wine fruit paused—halted by the relentless dry conditions, as the vines held their breath.
Relief came in the form of late March rain. The parched vines drank deeply, stirred awake, and rushed to complete their season’s work. Harvest surged forward, fast and urgent, reaching its conclusion on the 11th of April.
Winemaking
The 2025 Pinot Gris is sourced predominantly from North-West Tasmania, with a small amount from the Pipers River region. The fruit was whole bunch pressed and fermented with high solids to preserve fruit character whilst developing texture. We fermented the 2025 juice 100% in stainless steel, and aged on yeast sediment for 10 weeks after the completion ferment for further complexity. No malo-lactic ferment.
Tasting Notes
A lifted intense aroma of ripe pear, guava and white stone fruit. The palate is bursting with juice primary fruit, complimented by hints of ginger spice. The textured mouthfeel and zesty lemony freshness add length and a sense of ‘moreishness’ to this delicious cool-climate Gris.
