VINTAGE CONDITIONS
The 2023 vintage from Delamere showcases the elegance and finesse
typical of a cooler season, with taut acidity and a crescendo of lifted
aromatics that will make these wines a valuable addition to any serious
cellar. It was the third consecutive year of a La Niña weather pattern,
bringing high rainfall and cooler temperatures during the 2022 spring.
Fortunately, the vineyard’s rare red ferrosol soils provided excellent
drainage, allowing timely vineyard work between showers. Warmer
conditions in December and January helped the ripening process catch
up, though wet weather returned in February and March. Careful canopy
management and a well-timed warm, dry spell in early April enabled
optimal ripening of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Despite the
challenges, the season highlighted the importance of preparation and
responsiveness, with the final fruit harvested on April 16—just 30
minutes before the rain returned.
WINE MAKING
Handpicked, whole bunch pressed with 100% MLF, the NV Cuvée is made
using the traditional method of bottle fermentation. Blending, a key
aspect of this wine, is always focused on retaining the distinctive fruit
characteristics whilst balancing the more complex flavours that come
with wine maturation in barrel and on yeast lees.
The varietal blend is 69% Chardonnay and 31% Pinot Noir, with 20%
reserve wine blended into the 2023 base. The reserve blend consists of
2% 2022, 7% 2021, 4% 2020, 9% 2005-2019 (perpetual reserve).
Tirage Date: September 2023, Disgorgment Date: 14/05/2025 (20
months tirage-age).
TASTING NOTES
A fresh and lifted fruit-driven aroma of apples, white blossoms and
lemongrass. The palate is zesty and bright, with hints of complex hazelnut
and brioche bread. The texture of this wine is firm but elegant with
lemony acidity giving length to the delicately creamy palate.
FOOD MATCHES
A classic match with natural oysters, lobster and white-fleshed fish.
